They killed Irene Adler which didn’t seem necessary to me.

Also they didn’t do much with Mycroft.  He was in it but he didn’t do much and they didn’t show much of the Mycroft-Sherlock relationship.

First of all, they never smile. I talked to one that came to my door one day. He told me about how he’s been so much happier since he found God. Meanwhile he looked like he was ready to slash his wrists. Now I have depression and even I smile occasionally. Since that day I’ve paid attention, I’ve seen lot of them around and I’ve never seen one smile. Not once. Next time I talk to one I will ask him about this.

As weird as that is, my second point is even weirder. They are all caucasian males in their 20s with brown hair that are clean shaven. They have a VERY specific image. This raises so many questions. Are there female Mormons? Asian Mormons? African? Aboriginal? And perhaps the scariest question; what happens when you turn 30? Seriously, pay attention next time you see one. I say one, but I mean two. They are always in pairs.

Following on from the age thing. Those little black name tags they wear say Elder Smith (assuming his name is Smith). Elder? Really? 20 something is not old enough to be an elder. Do they know what the word means? An Elder should be at least 60, and typically should have a long beard. How can they call themselves ‘elders’.

I have all these questions and I haven’t even touched on the belief system. These are genuine questions; so if anyone has answers, please inform me.

So basically Batman and Superman. All I have so far are Batman and Superman, the rest are on order, waiting for reprints. Superman was really bad, it was a standard issue with Superman fighting some flame creature while Lois and the others reported on it. It didn’t feel like an issue one at all and gave no incentive to read any more of it. Batman on the other hand was awesome, it introduced all the characters and ended with a good cliff-hanger. If was so good in fact I have decided to continue getting it.

In terms of continuity I have no idea. From what I hear it’s very confusing and doesn’t make much sense. One reason I prefer Marvel, DC is so confusing.

Can’t wait for the Avengers movie.

I was thinking about the Cold War and how it started, but I’ll get to that later. I’ll start with Russia. Before World War II Russia was producing weapons for China. Then a few months before the war they canceled all deals with China and started selling weapons to Japan. Then of course the war started and China and Japan started fighting each other, and Russia stayed out of it. Now the two countries have been fighting each for centuries; basically since Japan first formed. So what Russia did was arm them both and stayed out of it, it’s the equivalent of a parent giving big sticks to two kids who hate each other and staying “I’m going out.” I’m not saying that’s right or wrong, it’s just what happened. Russia had to deal with Germany at the time, who was invading them.

Nazi Germany of course was the ‘big villain’ of the war. Hitler created an image and marched it across Europe. Poland first then Russia and France. I’m not sure how much of France was occupied but certainly parts of France spent the war under German control. America at this point was saying “Nothing to do with us.” and stayed out of it.

Back to Japan, as I said they were fighting China; but while the world was looking at Germany, they took the opportunity to expand and started invading countries to their south. Australia, seeing Japan headed in their direction started defending those counties. I don’t know how many, if any, countries Japan did invade; but I know they got nowhere near Australia. Japan did get a submarine into Sydney Harbour, but it was detected and captured. I don’t know how much damage one submarine could have done, but anyway.

England saw Germany was doing and stood up to them. For two reasons. The main one being, they were allied with France. But also because they didn’t want to be invaded themselves. England had been invaded before. During Caesar’s Roman expansion half the British Isles were captured. At the time England was just a bunch of tribes though. England itself wasn’t established until centuries after this; but a German invasion of England was a very real possibility. The reason I bring up Roman invasion is because that is what Hitler envisioned for Germany. That’s why he called it the Third Reich, reich meaning empire. The first empire being Rome; the second being The Holy Roman Empire, which became Germany. Hitler thought he was starting an empire that would last a thousand years, as the previous two had. He misjudged how long it would last, by about a thousand years. So England declared war and the war began, with Russia being their biggest ally.

Italy I’m not sure about. From what I understand they had an uneasy alliance with Germany, because Mussolini didn’t like Hitler on a personal level. England wanted them as an ally. France wanted to fight them, but changed their mind about that when Germany headed in their direction.

Spain, I have no clue what they were doing.

After six years of war Germany’s army was over stretched and Russia started making progress towards Berlin, eventually capturing it. Hitler knew the end was coming and committed suicide, rather than be captured. War in Europe was over, various countries were liberated; and Germany was split in two; but more on that later.

America was pretty much just sitting there for two years; watching the war, getting their armies ready in case they wanted to get involved. Then without warning Japan bombed Pearl Harbour. This was like kids in a snow ball fight and one kid’s just sitting there watching, and gets hit by one. America’s immediate response was to declare war on Japan (big surprise) and soon Germany. America soon began the Manhattan Project, which lead to the production of Atomic and Nuclear Bombs. Which eventually lead to America bombing Hiroshima. Suddenly preemptively striking America didn’t seem like such a good idea. After this Japan surrendered and the war was over.

In the years following the war America helped Japan rebuild. Japan was in financial ruin (an atomic bomb will to that to the economy) though politically they continued. America and Japan became allies, and with the computer age Japan found it’s niche and made millions.

I don’t know what the financial state of Germany was after the war, but politically they were ruined. Hitler had given Germany an image that the world didn’t like; so Post-Nazi Germany had to deal with that. They also went from a dictatorship to nothing in a day. There must have been some kind of civil war over where to go from there, that lead to the country being split into East and West Germany; like what happened to the Roman Empire (in that way Hitler got what he wanted). I say civil ‘war’ but it would have been purely political, no actual war occurred. Though the Berlin Wall was constructed, so there was tension between the two sides.

Back to my original point, how the Cold War started. After World War II, America and Russia, who were allies in the war, were left with stock piles of weapons and no one to fire them at. So they just kind of looked at each other and said “Alright, I’ll fight you.” Each one daring the other one to take the first shot, but neither one actually starting it.

The political reason being their opposing views on communism. Which lead to a lot of the wars in the mid 20^th Century. Korea and Vietnam being the most notable ones.

50 years after WWII came the Fall of Communism. Russia gave up on the idea, the Cold War was over. About this time (a bit earlier actually) the Berlin Wall was knocked down and Germany reunited into one country again. Whether this was related to communism or not I’m not sure. It was also about this time that America started looking at Iraq. Again it was like “Well that war’s over, who else can we fight?” It’s like America came of out WWII, a war they originally wanted no part of, thinking “Hey, we’re pretty good at this, we totally kicked butt. Let’s do it again!”

To conclude; I had no goal in writing this. Just wrote what I was thinking about. Hope you enjoyed it, or even learned something. There are holes in my knowledge, so if you want to add to this and teach me something; go for it.
